Candour scope: Structural façade system and panelisation strategy
Brays House represents an important evolution of the Candour platform: our first project designed to achieve Passive House certification.
Designed by Archier and delivered with Davies Construction, the project combines the rigorous performance requirements of Passive House with an architectural ambition for openness, natural light and a strong connection to the surrounding Tasmanian landscape.
Candour worked with the project team to develop the structural façade system and broader panelisation strategy, integrating prefabrication, structure, glazing and building performance from the outset.
Passive House design requires exceptional control of insulation, airtightness, thermal bridging and glazing performance. These requirements can often result in relatively limited areas of glazing, but Brays House challenges that convention.
Extensive glazed façades are fundamental to the architecture. Candour's structural façade system allows these large openings to be integrated into the high-performance building envelope while maintaining the thermal performance required for Passive House certification.
Candour's panelisation strategy allows critical junctions between structure, insulation and glazing to be resolved before fabrication, providing greater control over the building envelope and establishing a clear sequence for assembly on site.
Brays House demonstrates the potential for the Candour platform to combine Passive House performance with the openness and transparency of a highly glazed architectural home — setting a new benchmark for the environmental performance of our prefabricated system.
Candour makes designing and building flexible, sustainable prefabricated buildings simpler for Architects and Designers.
